Understanding Voltage Drop

Voltage drop is the reduction in voltage as electrical current flows through a conductor. Excessive voltage drop can lead to inefficient operation, equipment damage, and safety hazards. The National Electrical Code (NEC) recommends limiting voltage drop to 3% for branch circuits and 5% total for feeders and branch circuits combined.

Formula: VDI = (AMPS × FEET) ÷ (% VOLT DROP × VOLTAGE)

DC Systems (12V/24V)
